Roller hockey skates are an extension of the player's legs. Both 4 wheel skates and inline skates can be used as roller hockey skates. Traditionally 4 wheeled roller hocky skates were more popular in europe, which inline hockey skates were more popular in North America. Novices may use any inline roller skates, however more advanced players prefer using inline skatess specially designed as roller hockey skates. Some even have different sets of wheels for their roller hockey skates to be used depending on the playing surface and the weather. Hard roller hocker skate wheels tend to be better suited for asphalt, while soft roller hockey skate wheels tend to be better suited for indoor rinks. However, as with most hockey equipment the best roller hockey skates are a matter of preference.
